University Hospitals EMS Institute has partnered with Vitalant Blood Donation to increase the blood supply in Northeast Ohio, ensuring that hospitals and patients have the lifesaving resources they need.
The first blood drive occurred at the Kent Fire Department on March 16, 2025. This was the kickoff blood drive for a series of donation events. To make the initiative even more exciting, we’re encouraging friendly competition between local fire and police departments. At the end of the year, we will recognize and award the best departments for their contributions to this life-saving effort.
Follow us on Facebook and check back here for all our sponsored blood drives throughout Northeast Ohio, strengthening local medical care.
Every unit of blood can save up to three lives, making blood donation one of the most impactful ways to support those in critical need. Northeast Ohio uses over 500 units of blood each day, and approximately 29,000 units are needed across the United States. Additionally, nearly 5,000 units of platelets and 6,500 units of plasma are used every day. Be one of the estimated 6.8 million people who donate each year in the United States and help treat trauma patients, neonates, individuals undergoing surgery, and those with chronic illnesses like cancer and blood disorders.
